Luke prove's his rookie status when he arrives late for the attack, disobeys orders from Red Squadron, then ignores Obi Wan's repeated pleas to use the force and misses the thermal exhaust port. He's lucky Chewbacca doesn't scalp him and use his skull as a dinner plate.
