The Shortest Concert EVER

The White Stripes announced they were playing a show in Canada. People showed up. Everyone got excited. Too bad the entire concert consisted of ONE NOTE.

I already hated these fuckers because they suck (although their videos are really cool), and now they do this?? I can't believe that the fans didn't stomp them. That was fucking gay. How are those people famous, and I'm not.

my god this is an insult to rock music... and the fans are an insult to the human race. back in the day when rock still had balls they would have been burned along with all the disco records.

The White Stripes didn't need another strike against them to be one of the worst bands of all time. Icky Thump is easily the worst song ever written in the history of mankind. Seriously, cavemen flogging each other with mammoth bones is more musical. Icky Thump doesn't adhere to any of the basic rules that would classify it as music, such as harmony, rhythm or melody. It is, to put it plainly, just noise. I cringe every time these corporate tools play it on the radio.

Everyone knows rock reached its peak during the halcyon days of Slade.

Are you guys retarded? The white stripes are one of the most real bands out there today, there musics simplicity is there biggest strength, not their weakness. It's all about dynamics, the way the drums and guitar interact, the drums accent the guitar, they are the guitars periods, commas and explanation marks! How can you say they are corporate tools? They toured all of canada, every province. They played a show in Iqaluit which is north of the arctic circle, apparently they lost $60,000 playing those northern shows as all their equipment had to be flown in and the venues could only hold in the hundreds of people. The white stripes play blues infused rock at its finest, pure emotion and energy. Personally, I'd say guns N roses are more of a shot in the face, everytime i hear sweet child of mine i wish some would shoot me in the face. The white stripes have more balls than most bands out there today, they play the music they want to play, how they want, where they want.

As an editor of this site, I gotta say I love Slade, GnR AND the white stripes. The stripes are one of my favorite bands, Slade wrote one of my favorite songs ("Cum on Feel tha noize") and GnR is the best band to listen to while getting drunk. Can't we all just get along?

dude first of all i was refering to the so called "concert" as an insult. they're music isn't that bad, i admit. second i don't care how they spend their money, the could play on the moon for all i care. and third i don't recall turning this into a "who is the best rock band" or "this band is better or badder than that band" debate...

true...one thing you have to factor in though is that the concert was in Canada...so isn't a one note concert really all that Canadians deserve? also i think there was a full concert in a different venue in that town later that night...this was a free, surprise concert

They've played these little secret shows all across canada. I saw them play in Winnipeg and they played on a bus downtown and then jammed with a busker on the provencier bridge.

And yes they played for full shows for paying fans in real venues in every province in Canada.

slade is one of the most influential bands in history. ask gene simmons where he got any of his ideas from...they were more influential (though worse) than bowie for sure

I guess they are if you considering glam "good".

mhm. it is. you can't rule out music on genre alone. if you do, you're a small minded loser

what most people would consider glam does suck. Maybe a few noticeable exceptions, Bowie, David lee roth van halen era, but ya for the most part i think my statement was very accurate.

There are two "glam" movements. The first is 70s glam that includes Slade, Bowie, T Rex, The Sweet etc. The 2nd is the sunset strip group that includes Motley Cru Van Halen, GnR etc. So get your shit straight, first off. 2nd off, the 2nd movement of glam is admittedly trashy...most of the artists of that era have admitted in their respective biographies that their songs are disposable and that they did it for the pussy and the cash. Read Klosterman's "Fargo Rock City," though, for his case as to why THAT era of glam rock is worth listening to. The bands that bridge the two movements are KISS and Aerosmith. I don't actually like KISS other than a few songs, but Aerosmith is a great band (at least from their 70s and early 80s recordings). And also, when you say something sucks, you gotta say on what points...do you mean it's musically inferior? It's lyrically deficient? The glam "image" doesn't "turn you on?" Either way, even the most annoying genres have standout artists. Case in point, No Doubt emerging from the 90s ska fad and Daft Punk emerging from faceless European electronic music.

Whoa, I really can't argue with that, you know your shit my good man.
