If it's been a while since you've found yourself good and addicted to an MMORPG, you couldn't possibly have chosen a better time to get back into the hobby.

Video games have been likened to drugs by a number of watchdog groups and mainstream media sources in the past, and, like any other form of media, this is partially true.  Books, movies, video games, etc., all have the power to influence the emotional state of their audience.  Some games happen to make the player go just a little bit insane.  Let's look at the evidence.

Enter the Matrix was awful. Not Matrix: Reloaded bad, but definitely Matrix: Revolutions bad.

The fact that there hasn't been an Ender's Game videogame yet is absolutely ridiculous.

FACT: Not a single living person has ever completed the Battletoads speedbike level. Ever.

If these commercials are to be believed, Activision Ice Hockey was so fun it caused brain aneurysms in 2/3 of those who played it.

Once upon a time, gamers actually had to be skilled in order to be successful in video games.  Very little was candy-coated, and most was rather hard-boiled.  Back then, those games separated the men from the boys.

Most of us remember the classic side-scrolling beat 'em up games that graced the arcades and home consoles in the late 80's and early 90's.  These games were awesome and memorable - and almost represent an entire stage of life.

Within four clicks, you can become a bum. Four.

The story-driven game has become increasingly popular over the last console generation, and has been around even longer. The best video game plots rely on the game's cast of characters to form a strong story. Without great characters, there is little to invite gamers' interest in the title, and being that the key demographic for video games is something like 17-24 year old males, it stands to reason that the most well-received characters will be the uber-BADASSES in town.
