Sons of Anarchy Season 5 Red Carpet Event

FX Networks and Harley-Davidson recently celebrated the new season of Sons of Anarchy with a red carpet premiere event featuring the cast of the show.

Held at the Westwood Village Theater in Los Angeles, CA, the event was a chance for lucky attendees to get a glimpse of the cast of one of FX's hottest shows, get a closeup of some of the Harley-Davidson bikes used on the show, and best of all, get a sneak peek of the first episode of season 5 (which airs Tuesday, September 11). Having attended the preview (and never having prior exposure to the show), I can honestly state that the show is excellent. Within the first five minutes, new viewers are drawn in to this world of motorcycles and crime, taken for a wild ride and then left panting for more.

The majority of the cast was on hand. Old favorites, including Charlie Hunnam, Katey Segal, Maggie Siff, Ron Perlman, and Mark Boone Junior - to name a few - joined special guest stars for the season Jimmy Smits, Harold Perrineau and Danny Trejo.

Michael Ornstein on Chuck Marstein's Nervous "Twitch" (Marstein suffers from CMD: Chronic Masturbation Disorder, where when he becomes nervous he compulsively self-gratifies, apparently without even realizing it)
DV: Your character on the show has an...interesting nervous twitch or behavior. How did that come about?
Michael Ornstein: Kurt [Sutter] came up with it. He just dreamed it up, man. Yeah, an original idea. I mean, I've never seen that in a movie or read about it in a book or on TV, nothing. I mean, imagine that. It really does blow my mind, man, that Kurt came up with an original idea in this day and age. People've been writing stuff for a long time, and that's quite a feat. It really is.

Danny Trejo on Romero 'Romeo' Parada, The "Baddest CIA Agent You've Ever Seen", Machete's Love for Bikes and Killing, and the Future
DV: So what are you doing on the show this season?
Danny Trejo: I'm the baddest CIA Agent you've ever seen in your life. It's a good thing I love Jax! (Laughs)
DV: You ride?
DT: My last bike was on the cover of Easy Rider magazine, June issue. The Machete bike. Whole thing covered in machetes, machetes everywhere. And this next movie, Machete Kills, makes the first one look like a nursery rhyme. Me and Jessica Alba, we kill 12 people in the first 3 minutes of the movie. (Laughs...a LOT)
DV: What else are you working on?
DT: I'm leaving Thursday for Malta. And I just finished a movie, Bad Ass, just came out. And Recoil, with Stone Cold Steve Austin. I fight Stone Cold. Yeah, great fight (laughs, does fighting motions).

Harold Perrineau on Damon Pope and Sport Bikes vs. Cruisers
DV: I've been a fan since the days of the Matrix Reloaded -
HP: Oh, right on! (laughs)
DV: - as that's like, my favorite movie trilogy, so this is an extra special treat for me.
HP: Oh, cool, cool! Thank you!
DV: So what's your character doing on the show?
HP: Well, my character's Damon Pope, and he's a man of means. They're advertising Damon as the big bad guy this season and, well, he's a bad guy! (laughs) I mean, there's nothing really more to say about that. He's a bad dude. They killed Damon's daughter at the end of last season so, yeah...he's a cat with means, and he's a cat who's angry, and...you'll find out. (laughs) Then after that, it becomes really interesting. You think it's going to go one way and, well, you know how human beings are -
DV: They're unpredictable.
HP: Exactly, and that's what makes it really fun to watch the season, and all the changes, so it's really very cool.
DV: Do you ride?
HP: Yeah, I ride a Ninja...[but] my first bike was totally a cruiser, you know. I was like, I wanna ride bikes, but I don't wanna kill myself, so I rode a cruiser for like a year, man, and just chilled, and eventually I said let me see what else is out there. Then I got on one of those sport bikes and -
DV: You were done, right?
HP: Yeah!! (laughs) Life change, yeah!

Ron Perlman - Clarence 'Clay' Morrow - on His Bike and Hopefully Doing Hellboy 3
DV: What do you ride?
RP: A Mercedes E350. With BOSE speakers.
DV: Of course, you gotta have the best.
RP: And it allows me to, you know, talk and text on the phone at the same time.
DV: Very cool...and...When's the next Hellboy?
RP: Hopefully next year. Hopefully.
