How to Live Like a King: 3 Most Baller Castles Around the WorldBy Damien on August 27, 2013 - 3:00 am |
There must have really been something
about living in a castle back in the day—compared to some of these
marvels of medieval architecture, our suburbs and studio apartments
leave a lot to be desired. At least we have air conditioning.
How badass is this castle? It's built into the front of a mountain with a huge cave in it—and the castle extends into the caves. Batman's cave can't even compare to this sweet ass fortress. It's located in Slovenia, where it's appropriately named “Predjamski Grad” which means “castle in front of the cave”. Apparently they weren't very creative with naming things in the 1300s when it was built, but they were pretty skilled architects. This is probably the smallest castle in this list, but if you want to impress women with that dark, brooding atmosphere, this would be the place to do it in.
The Real Dracula's Castle
Transylvania—now part of Romania—has a historical figure that was believed to be the “real” Dracula. His name was Vlad the third, and he deserved all of the legends that surround him. This castle wasn't his home, it was where he was held prisoner for seven years (presumably for sucking the blood of innocent virgins). As far as places to be imprisoned go, it's pretty badass.
Yes, That's Real
Doesn't this castle look like something straight out of a bad fantasy movie? But it's not a paper mache set—this huge castle is real. It was built relatively recently too, in the 1800s. Located in the scenic Bavarian mountains in Germany, it was built for King Ludwig, who thought to be pretty much crazy. Crazy or not, the dude knew how to oversee the construction of a badass castle. There was running water and toilets on every floor, and even a heating system (keep in mind this is the 1800s we're talking about here). How awesome would it be to take a dump on the top floor of this thing?
