Zack Snyder Keeps Using the Word "Fun" to Describe Justice League Team Dynamic

Oh great, what nonsense has Zack Snyder spouted this time?

He’s not recommending that we burn the elderly to heat our homes, is he? Because if he did, it wouldn’t be a complete surprise.

No, instead, Snyder is dropping big plot hints for the upcoming Justice League, because apparently he lives in a fantasy world where anyone actually gives a crap.

Okay, perhaps that’s unfair. There are people out there who care about Zack Snyder’s future movies. There’s around six thousand of them, and they have a dubious understanding of what Change.org is meant to achieve.

These six thousand people will no doubt be thrilled to learn, then, that Snyder has described the way the heroes in his version of the Justice League interact is “fun”.

Well, maybe they won’t be thrilled by that—after all, if they enjoyed Batman v Superman, they probably hate fun with a fiery passion.

At least, though, they can take solace in the fact that what Zack Snyder thinks is fun, most other people consider a harrowing experience that requires professional psychiatric care in order to fully overcome.

Drowning in a river of skulls probably isn’t intended as a moment of levity in Man of Steel, but it’s hardly a day at the beach. Luckily this iteration of Superman finds almost no value in human life, so he’s able to shrug the dream sequence off and carry on with his day.

Here’s Snyder’s full quote:

“One of the more rewarding aspects of creating Justice League was having fun exploring the dynamic between this diverse group of larger-than-life characters with disparate backgrounds, ethics, and unique perspectives all trying to come together and work as a team. [Their dynamic] not only offers an opportunity for great drama and complex relationships, but it also often results in great fun. It’s an exciting concept to explore and it only gets better when you add the component of our incredibly talented cast – their chemistry really adds to that dynamic.”

It's possible to get a pretty good feeling of how this dynamic will play out, based solely on the trailer for Justice League that we first saw almost a year ago.

Batman and Wonder Woman are flirty. Aquaman is grumpy, while Bruce Wayne quickly forgets that he’s there to ask for Arthur Curry’s help, and instead makes fun of him for talking to fish.

The Flash is annoying, lonely, and surprisingly optimistic about everything. He’s the token jokester.

Cyborg is, uh, also in the movie? He’s not really given a moment to shine in the trailer.

Apparently he’s a Mother Box, though, which must pass as character development in Zack Snyder’s mind. This is hardly news to anyone who actually understood the plot of BvS, but the announcement has been made anyway, in case, a year after you saw the movie, you’re still puzzled as to what was going on.

Mother Boxes are exciting if you care about DC lore. If you don’t, tough! You need to sit down, shut up, and watch this movie anyway!

Zack Snyder has commanded that you enjoy this movie, and appreciate the dynamic characters who are interacting and emoting in front of your eyes! Look, the big fishy one doesn’t like the skinny talkative one! This is engaging cinema!

Nothing says fun quite like mandatory fun.
