Apropos of nothing, Keanu Reeves needs to play a werewolf. He has mastered the look of a man who just woke up after a night of rampaging as a wolf monster. Anyway, Laurence Fishburne is currently hamming it up in John Wick Chapter 2, and as this is the first major film he's promoted since Batman v Superman debuted last Spring, it was the first chance for the media to grill him on the latter film's tepid reception.
While speaking to the LA Times alongside JW2 and Matrices co-star Keanu Reeves, the conversation quickly turned to comic book movies and whether or not Fishburne's Perry White would turn up in this November's Justice League. He gave a very frank reason why he isn't appearing and then segues nicely into a mini-rant on how Marvel runs the world at the moment...
They asked me to come for a day, but I couldn’t work it out, schedule-wise. And really, what do you need the newspaperman in “Justice League” for? You want to see the Flash. You want to see Aquaman. You want to see Wonder Woman. You want to see the Lantern.
We’ve been waiting 35 years for these [characters] to show up on the screen. What were they doing over there? Marvel has been kicking their ass. This is the comic-book geek in me, who has a collection of comic books. I’ve been waiting to see these people on-screen forever.
Then asked about the reaction/backlash to BvS, Fishburne had this to say...
Look, I love what Zack Snyder does. Jesse Eisenberg, this little nebbishy guy, as Lex Luthor? For me, that’s a genius move. And the whole thing with Martha Kent and Martha Wayne? I don’t know, man, I must be sentimental but that’s some heartwarming [stuff] to me. So I don’t get it.
You've got to appreciate anyone who is this candid in an interview. So many actors are total bullshit artists, but both Fishburne and Reeves don't give a shit. It's a decent read if you've got the time. Check it out right here.
