Game of Thrones is a cultural phenomenon. From the books to the TV series, to an expanded canon of supplements, prequels (Dunk and Egg), and cosplay, I think the Song of Ice and Fire may have become more popular, relevant, and important than Lord of the Rings.
And when a piece of pop culture gets big enough, it gets parodied. Here are some of the funniest looks at the struggles of Westeros.
Game of Thrones Medley
The creative filmmakers at The Warp Zone produced this musical medley, giving each major claimant to the Iron Throne a pop song parody. Katy Perry's "Roar" works with House Lannister's motto "Hear Me Roar" all too well. And what would a Game of Thrones song parody be without Imagine Dragons?
The Real Housewives of Westeros
The women of the HBO series are... strong-willed. So why not put them all together and watch what happens? This clever parody produced by Dirty Cues shows the drama that takes place when Cersei, Daenerys, Melisandre, Sansa, and Ellaria attend Margaery's name-day party.
MADtv Game of Thrones
The world of Game of Thrones includes lots of houses, lands, and titles—never mind the byzantine plots of intrigue and espionage and betrayal. Even the "Previously On" recaps can be confusing. MADtv perfectly pokes fun at how complicated the show can be. "Why am I an adult in Bran's flashback?" "Because in this flashback, you're having a premonition."
Sesame Street: Game of Chairs
Musical chairs, that is. Cersei, Robb, Joffrey, and Daenerys decide to settle their claim to the throne in a bloodless way, helped along by Grover Bluejoy. Sure, the comedy isn't as sophisticated as MADtv, but seeing the main characters as puppets is pretty great. Stick around long enough to see Dany's baby dragon.
House of Thrones
House of Cards is sort of a modern-day Game of Thrones, so this parody from...Quiznos?!...works quite well. Watch an excellent impersonator of Frank Underwood subtly and not-so-subtly eliminates all the major players of Westeros. All he does is insult Tyrion's height and give Arya a bad haircut, but it's enough to take them out of the running.
School of Thrones
Are the plots and rivalries of Westeros any more vicious than high school? This smart parody from Will Save Productions turns the houses of Game of Thrones into high school cliques... and it works surprisingly well. The video above is actually the first episode of a series, focusing on Dany's first day at Westeros High and the upcoming election of Prom King and Queen. The opening sequence, featuring sketches of a school popping into three dimensions, is fantastic.
