Once upon a time, Nicolas Cage actually starred in movies that played on 3000 screens and won Academy Awards. I know that seems hard to believe in an era when almost all of his movies seem to go direct to Netflix, but he actually flirted with playing Superman once upon a time. Now he's weighing in on the current crop of superhero films from 2016 while promoting his latest (direct to video) film, Army of One.
During an interview with Collider, notorious comics fan Cage—he named his son Kal-El for pete's sake—gave his completely and totally uncontroversial opinions on three of the heavy hitters from this year. When asked about the current state of comic book films he responded, "I thought Civil War was excellent. I though Batman v Superman was excellent. I though Will Smith was great in Suicide Squad. I think that the genre is in good shape."
Notice how he didn't say that Suicide Squad was excellent, but rather praised Will Smith's performance in it. This is because although Nicolas Cage might be insane and might waste his money on purchasing dinosaur bones acquired through unscrupulous means, he's not a moron. Even he knows better than to admit that he liked that movie out loud.
