We're mere weeks away from finally getting to see the first non-Harry Potter related Harry Potter movie, and in true Hollywood franchise fashion, we're already getting news about the sequel.
That's right, Fancy Lads and Where to Find Them starring Eddie Redmayne is getting a sequel and he'll be joined in his fancy questing by noted scarf enthusiast Johnny Depp. It's kind of amazing to think that Depp hasn't played a Harry Potter wizard yet, especially considering how much they love robes and bangles and baubles. Thankfully we'll set all of this straight in two or so years... or maybe sooner!
According to Deadline, Depp's character may actually be set up in the first film coming out in two weeks. Author Mike Fleming, Jr.'s sources have apparently made comments that lead him to believe Depp may actually be in the film saying, "I believe that if you look carefully, you might spot him in a tiny turn in the first installment of the J.K. Rowling-created Harry Potter spinoff, which Warner Bros opens November 18."
So who will Depp be playing? I suppose the most popular theory is that he'll be playing Gellert Grindelwald, the man who battled a young Albus Dumbledore in what was known as "the greatest duel in wizarding history." I have a better theory, however, and that is that Depp will be playing the little known Sebastian Scarvelous, owner of Marvelous Scarvelous' Scarves for the Somnambulant, a specialty retailer in Diagon Alley. Time will tell if this theory holds water.
