Believe it or not, Screen Junkies has yet to give Zack Snyder's first foray into DC adaptations, 2009's Watchmen, the honest trailer treatment. Well, all of that ends now as they've finally cut one of their brilliant honest trailers for the film, and it's a brilliant illustration of Snyder's limitations as a filmmaker.
While there is quite a lot to dissect in here, not least of which is all the cgi Dr. Manhattan wang in the film, the big revelation is the same name trick that Snyder incorporated into Batman v Superman, likely under the assumption that no one would notice. Well, we noticed buddy, or Screen Junkies did anyway. I suppose that the biggest takeaway from this is that Snyder cannot make a film that's not deeply flawed in some way, shape, or form. The guy's a great visualist, but his films are almost always lacking in substance. It was a fool's errand to ever try to adapt the film in the first place, and indications are that Snyder's not done trying to get the perfect version of this story on screen. Time will tell if that will ever happen, though my answer at the moment is that it likely won't. This is Hollywood, however, and anything worth doing is worth doing until it makes a profit.
