When we first saw the concept art for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 last week, many people were surprised to see that Karen Gillan's Nebula, half-sister of Zoe Saldana's Gamora and secondary villain of the first film, appeared to be fighting alongside the Guardians this go around. Well, Nebula's involvement with the team and her half-sister isn't quite as cut and dry as we seemed to think it would be, as Saldana revealed in a new interview with IGN.
"You’ll begin to get a glimpse of how terrible life must have been like to grow up with a crazy stepfather through Nebula. Nebula is still in that teen-y, f*****g hateful s**t. She’s just resentful and bitter," Saldana says of the character. As far as how that puts her once more into conflict with Nebula, she continues, "Gamora, everything she does is trying to gain redemption for what she’d done before. That’s where you’re going to find her and then, obviously, their relationship is very volatile."
As to how Thanos himself factors into the film, Saldana wasn't willing to spill the beans other than to say, "We’re starting somewhere very crazy but appropriate given where we had ended things off in the first installment. So Thanos is definitely spoken about – not highly."
While most details are still under wraps on the film, it's nice to get little character hints like these to better prepare us for what to expect next May when Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits theaters.
