The Marvel/Netflix SDCC News Round-Up

Marvel unveiled a ton of new stuff yesterday at San Diego Comic Con for their various Netflix properties, and we've got a lot to cover so let's dive right in!

Daredevil

While there was never much doubt that we'd get a third season of Daredevil after the spectacular second season, it was officially confirmed via this teaser trailer. Granted it doesn't give much of anything away, but we're all hoping for Bullseye to turn up this season, which is what Charlie Cox is hoping for as well. Let's also keep our fingers crossed for more Vincent D'Onofrio as well!

Jessica Jones

Nothing much new to report on the second season of Jessica Jones, except that we know we'll be getting a six-inch scale figure of the character in an upcoming wave of Marvel Legends figures, along with a Jon Bernthal Punisher figure...

Luke Cage

We finally have our first official footage from the upcoming Netflix series, and it looks pretty damn spectacular. The first season, set to debut in its entirety on September 30, features Mike Colter as Marvel's original Power Man, and includes a supporting cast of amazing actors like Alfre Woodard, Frank Whaley, Theo Rossi, Mahershala Ali, and Simone Missick. We also got a kind of blurry promotional image where Colter demonstrates his immense power...

Iron Fist

We also got our first look at footage from Iron Fist, set to debut in 2017, and it looks equally fantastic. From the looks of things, they're keeping Danny Rand (Finn Jones)'s origin story pretty close to the comics, with him discovering the mystical city of K'un-Lun as a young man—apparently via a plane crash. Marvel COO Joe Quesada also revealed, in an interview with IGN, that Iron Fist will feature more villains in its first season than any of the other Netflix superhero series, saying...

"The cast is amazing. Another show that will be completely different from Luke, Jessica and Daredevil. That's really our goal. We're trying to offer four shows, that live in the same universe but offer fans a completely different look. Martial arts will play a huge part in Iron Fist. I would also say that Iron Fist has more villains, in our first season, than any of our other shows. There's a lot going on. Scott Buck, the showrunner and his writing team have created a fantastic story for us and have wove in some great legends from Marvel present past. We're still in production so we're not quite at the point where we'll begin promoting it but I think fans are going to dig it."

The Defenders

Finally, we got our first tease of the epic event bringing these four series together into an Avengers-esque team up series titled The Defenders. Scored to Nirvana's "Come As You Are," the teaser doesn't give much of anything away, but features just enough geeky easter eggs to keep fans speculating for the next year and a half or so. Culminating with a nicely slurred line from Scott Glenn's Stick, the teaser is about as good as we can hope for considering two of the heroes haven't even debuted their own series yet. While they did nothing to squash the rumors that the Defenders will be facing off against Mephisto, they did keep things interesting by simply saying that the series "will unite Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist, as they face their biggest threat yet."

Only time will tell who they'll be facing, but all of these goodies are going to have us speculating wildly for months to come. Are you excited about this lineup? Anything you're particularly excited for or dreading? Be sure to let us know in the comments section below!
