DC Animation's 'Justice League Dark' is Full of Easter Eggs and Awesomeness

DC Animation is experiencing a bit of a mountain top moment right now, as their one-night only theatrical showing of The Killing Joke made a little over three million dollars on Monday night. Their animated offerings have always been top notch, and their next announced project looks like it could be every bit as fantastic as their best work. Justice League Dark, featuring the lineup of characters from the New 52 reboot, is due out in 2017, and this first look features some great moments for fans of the more magical characters in the DC Universe.

DC Animation vet Jay Oliva—the man at the helm of several adaptations including the outstanding Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Parts I & II—is in the director's chair once again, and he's got some great surprises in store for fans of these characters. Perhaps the biggest announcement to come out of this extended sneak peek, set to debut in the bonus features of The Killing Joke Blu-ray, is that Matt Ryan will once again be playing Constantine. Ryan played the character in the short-lived NBC series Constantine—as well as on one episode of Arrow—and fans upset by that series' untimely demise can rejoice in this news.

It looks like Swamp Thing and Etrigan are also in the mix, along with Constantine, Zatanna, Deadman, Shade, and Madame Xanadu, making this a DC geek's delight. While there's no official release date yet, and some of the footage in this sneak peek is clearly unfinished, next year's looking to be another awesome year for DC Animation.
