Universal is proving themselves to be a franchise contender with their upcoming shared cinematic universe, namely because they're willing to go after actors that Marvel and DC haven't already gobbled up. So far they've got Tom Cruise battling The Mummy, Russell Crowe doing his thing as Jekyll & Hyde, Johnny Depp as The Invisible Man, and now they want one of the biggest stars in the world to play The Wolf Man.
Buried deep inside an article on Deadline about Dwayne Johnson producing a Son of Shaolin film adaptation is this line: "there are persistent rumors Universal wants him howling at the moon when it gets around to the Wolf Man movie that is part of its classic monsters franchise revival plans." Obviously he would be a big get for Universal, with whom he's already made a bunch of Fast & Furious movies, as well as The Scorpion King, but he's one of the hardest working men in showbusiness. It's hard for me to imagine he's going to fit this into a schedule that already includes Fast 8, Baywatch, a third and fourth Journey To sequels, the Jumanji reboot, and of course, he's set to play Black Adam for DC in 2019's Shazam! Holy shit that's a packed schedule. Will he find time to wolf out for Universal? Only time will tell, and we'll keep you up to date on the latest info as it comes in.
