'Drive' Director Nicolas Winding Refn Almost Directed 'Wonder Woman'

Arguably one of the most talented filmmakers around, Nicolas Winding Refn is also one of the most polarizing. Therefore, DC fans might be either elated or upset to learn that the director was once in the running to direct the upcoming Wonder Woman film, but he walked when they wouldn't cast his choice for the role. And on top of all that, DC may still want to bring him into the fold, and he knows exactly which film he'd want to direct.

While appearing on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Refn mentioned that he was once in early talks to direct Wonder Woman, but laughs when asked if he was seriously considered for the job. He went on to mention that he would only make the film is Christina Hendricks played Wonder Woman, something that was more or less out of the question as Gal Gadot had already been cast in the role.

DC likely knows that Refn would be a huge "get" for their cinematic universe, and Refn himself knows exactly which film he would want to make if they did ask him to direct a different DC film saying, "You know the one I want to do? I want to make Batgirl. Let’s get Warner working on it."

While I loved his early films, Only God Forgives was borderline unwatchable, but it was at least a stylistic nightmare. I seriously doubt he'd be any worse a choice than Zack Snyder or David Ayer, so DC should seriously consider giving him the reigns on Batgirl... provided Christina Hendricks isn't in the running for the role.
