Deadpool was the biggest surprise box office smash in a while, and Fox certainly knows that the character is its greatest asset is of late. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that in a new trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse, Ryan Reynolds shows up for a brand new after-trailer stinger, which allows him to simultaneously hype the release of his film in Japan.
In addition to this surprise appearance in the X-Men trailer, we've also got some news about the upcoming sequel to Deadpool, which is planned to begin production early next year. While speaking with Collider before the 42nd Annual Saturn Awards, Producer X-traordinaire (see what I did there?) Simon Kinberg gave updates on some planned Fox sequels. Deadpool 2 begins production early next year, which means they'll likely slate it for their currently vacant March 2, 2018 slot.
Kinberg also spoke about the secrecy surrounding Wolverine 3 or Weapon X or Wolverine: Weapon X or whatever they're gonna call it. While we've seen a bunch of set pics, Kinberg intimated that they're trying to keep details about the film under wraps saying, "We really want it to be discovered, the way that we used to watch movies a long time ago when you didn't know everything about them before you went to see them." Good luck with that, dude.
As for what the future holds for Fox's mutant franchise, Kinberg had this to say: "We're really, really serious about a making the Gambit movie. And figuring out what the next X-Men movie is going to be. That's all I can tell you." So there you have it, folks. It looks like things are still moving forward on that Gambit movie, I guess.
