So for the longest time, all the Captain Marvel casting talk swirled around Emily Blunt, and eventually directors named Emily who could helm the film, but all that talk goes straight out the window now. Multiple sources are reporting today that newly minted Oscar winner Brie Larson is in talks to play Carol Danvers in the upcoming Marvel Phase Three film that is also inching closer to signing a director.
As first reported by Variety, Larson is in final talks to play the title role in the film, though The Hollywood Reporter (link below) added two never before heard names to the list of potential directors, one of whom will knock your dick in the dirt...
Marvel has been on the hunt for a female filmmaker to helm this most female-centric of their properties, with names like Niki Caro (Whale Rider, McFarland, USA) and Jennifer Kent (The Babadook) surfacing as contenders, according to sources.
That's right, naysayers. It was a scant month and a half ago that I suggested Marvel give Jennifer Kent the time of day and hire her to direct something in the MCU. Seriously though, if you get Brie Larson and Jennifer Kent involved, this might replace Thor: Ragnarok as my most anticipated film of Phase Three. Slightly off topic, but am I the only one who says "Profit" in their heads every time you see or hear the term Phase Three? No, just me? Okay fine.
