One of the biggest complaints coming out of the first teaser for the forthcoming Star Trek: Beyond was that it didn't look or feel like a Star Trek movie. Considering this is still part of the franchise that gave us Into Darkness, I was somewhat okay with that—but this new trailer seeks to find lost fans who were looking for a movie that felt more like a Star Trek movie, and I have to say, I'm okay with this one too.
Not only did Comic Book Movie (link below) bring us this awesome trailer, they also gave us a look at this shiny new poster rendered in standard orange and teal colors designed to make audiences feel safe...
Here's the thing. I viewed Into Darkness as a slap in the face to fans. It was a terribly misguided effort to give fans the same movie but different, but the fact of the matter is, you don't fuck with Wrath of Khan. That film is the nadir of science fiction filmmaking and trying to redo it was a fool's errand that the writers then tried to blame on the fans. Considering this has a new director and a script co-written by Simon Pegg, who is a legitimate Trek fan, I think it's best to give it the benefit of the doubt. If it sucks on an Into Darkness scale, I'll reconsider ever being excited for Star Trek movies again, but something tells me this one might actually be good. I loved 2009's Star Trek and I've longed for that film's final promise of new worlds and new adventures. Keep moving forward without looking back. It'll be better for everyone.
