Both lovers and haters of the latest Coen Brothers film Hail, Caesar!—I'm somewhere in between—can all agree that the breakout star of the film was Alden Ehrenreich. We're all going to be seeing a lot more of Ehrenreich in the future, however, as Disney confirmed this morning that the actor has officially beat back every young hunk in Hollywood and signed to play Han Solo in the upcoming Han & Chewie origin film from directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller.
According to Deadline (link below), the 26 year old Ehrenreich is also attached to another high profile project, sure to raise his stock even more in the coming months...
The newcomer is also the lead in Warren Beatty’s yet untitled “Howard Hughes project” which will receive a fall release from Fox this year. The 26 year-old actor also gave a stand-out performance this year in Hail, Caesar! He is currently in production on Cinelou’s The Yellow Birds.
The Han Solo film, which Disney is slating for release on May 25th, 2018, will be directed The Lego Movie team of by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. The picture will focus on Solo’s days before he linked up with the rebel alliance. Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy is producing. Lawrence Kasdan is exec producing with Jason McGatlin. Kasdan — who wrote Star Wars pics The Empire Strikes Back,Return Of The Jedi and The Force Awakens — scripted the new pic with his son Jon Kasdan.
There are rumors swirling that he might actually make his debut in Rogue One, but that would be stupid and is a terrible idea. Hopefully it's debunked soon, because that would be fucking boneheaded. It's bad enough they're trying to shoehorn Vader into it, we don't need Han Solo to show up and wink at someone or something. Leave well enough alone.
