As we reported a few weeks ago, Marvel was close to signing a director and star with the same first name for their upcoming Captain Marvel film. Now it looks as though we know who that director may be, which in turn tells us who the star is likely to be, and none of this is to mention intriguing comments made by the Russo Brothers which indicate that they're planning to include the character in their upcoming two-part Avengers: Infinity War—title subject to change.
One of the screenwriters for Captain Marvel, Nicole Perlman, very recently followed Emily Carmichael on Twitter. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Camichael, she’s yet to direct a feature film but with how FOX took a chance on Tim Miller directing Deadpool, it’s not out of the realm of possibilities. Okay, so one of the writers frollowed her on Twitter. Big deal, right? Well, here’s where it gets interesting
The photo initially said “on my way to a Disney meeting” but then was changed to what it currently reads now, which simply says: I look a way – possibly to not reveal this so soon.
So yeah, looks like the cat might be out of the bag on that one, though I'm happy they're closing in not only on Carmichael, but especially on Blunt, who will kill it in the MCU.
As for that Russo Brothers slip up, according to ComicBook.com, they were giving a talk at the Smithsonian Institute when they accidentally let it be known that Carol Danvers will have some involvement in their upcoming films...
During an event at the Smithsonian Institute, the Russo's were speaking about the upcoming Infinity War, when they mentioned Captain Marvel by name. A fan quickly pounced, asking "did you just confirm Captain Marvel". Russo replied "Um....Captain Barvel. Totally different character."
Nice try, fellas. It's six more months until Doctor Strange, so let's hope they keep the MCU in everyone's minds by making an official announcement soon.
