Arguably the best part of Daredevil's entire second season, Jon Bernthal will reprise his role as Frank Castle a.k.a. The Punisher in his own Netflix series. While he's sure to pop up in the third season of Daredevil, it'll be nice to see that series go back to focusing on, well, Daredevil, while also giving Bernthal more room to grow on his own.
Entertainment Weekly (link below) broke the news this morning, along with showing off the first official teaser image for the series...
Writer and executive producer Steve Lightfoot (Hannibal, Casualty) will serve as showrunner.
Marvel’sThe Punisher marks the sixth series ordered (so far) as part of the collaboration between Netflix and Marvel Television, including the upcoming Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and the ensemble miniseries The Defenders – along with Jessica Jones and the aforementionedDaredevil. (And in case you’re wondering, as we are, whether Bernthal’s character will also be added to The Defenders lineup, that’s not yet clear – though it seems likely he’ll at least pop in for an appearance.)
Word that Netflix was working on a potential Punisher spin-off was first reported by TV Line last summer. Netflix and Marvel are expected to publicly announce the project later Friday. Here is the first teaser image for the new series:
So yeah, not much else to report at the moment, other than this will be the fourth live action property based on The Punisher, and far and away the most likely to succeed.
