Ever since Ryan Reynolds Ferris Buellered his way through the Deadpool end credits, people have been speculating about whom they'll cast to play Cable in the sequel. Just last week, director Tim Miller stated that any casting will have to wait until they've fleshed out the character on the page, and since he and screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are in the process of doing just that, they're talking a little bit more about what we can expect to see in the sequel.
According to Comic Book Movie (link below), Miller, Reese, and Wernick told IGN that they're thinking a lot about the character and will look to ultimately cast someone who will be "physically imposing" to Ryan Reynolds.
"There’s a lot about Cable’s history that I like because he’s so intertwined with the world of the X-Men... I think Deadpool needs a straight man. Cable is the ultimate, archetypal, silent, strong and cynical warrior, which Deadpool is not," said director Tim Miller. His screenwriters share that same sentiment. "Strength, gravitas, a purposefulness that Deadpool doesn’t have. Deadpool’s kind of got ADD, and we think of Cable as someone who locks onto something and is going to get that thing solved no matter what.” They also add that the actor should be "physically imposing."
Yet again, I will use this space to lobby for Michael Chiklis. I know everyone wants Stephen Lang, and he's a good choice, but you rug up Chiklis and you're gonna have people lining up to say, "Now we're talkin'!" Or maybe, just maybe, Clint Eastwood can help put all memories of The Dead Pool to rest by starring in Deadpool 2.
