'Batman: The Killing Joke' Trailer Arrives

Inarguably the darkest title yet to be tackled by DC and WB Animation, Alan Moore and Brian Bolland's The Killing Joke will also be the first R-rated feature released by the studio since the Watchmen tie-in Tales of the Black Freighter. That's right, the studio that managed to turn Frank Miller's DKR into a PG-13 film basically decided that there'd be no point in adapting The Killing Joke if it weren't going to be R-rated, and while this is a green band trailer, there are some tantalizing hints at the darkness to come.

While we've seen some of this footage before in the extended behind the scenes look from a few weeks ago, this trailer really shows off just how killer the voice cast will be. The notion of Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill going toe to toe in one of the most iconic and brutal Batman/Joker face-offs in comic history already sent geek hearts a'fluttering, but this feels like it's going to work better in practice than it does even in theory. You've also got to love the hint at the Joker's "one bad day" speech, which ranks among my absolute favorite lines in all of comic book history. Yeah, this one can't get here fast enough... Now to wait for an official release date...
