A new film from the Coen Brothers is an event among movie geeks, and their next film looks to be playing right into such Cheeto-stained fingers. Hail, Caesar! marks the fourth time the Brothers have teamed with George Clooney, and lots of their regulars pop up in the film, but two Coen newbies take center stage in this second theatrical trailer for the upcoming film.
A perfectly executed piece of comedy with a brilliant button, this trailer is effectively just an entire scene from the film wherein Ralph Fiennes attempts to teach rube actor Alden Ehrenreich how to properly annunciate the phrase, "Would that it were so simple." It's a brilliant piece of advertising, taking essentially one scene and letting it sell the movie. I was already sold, but this has done nothing to temper my excitement. I cannot wait for this film to open on February 5, which can be a graveyard for movies, but the Coens have tended to release their more broad films: Raising Arizona, The Hudsucker Proxy, The Ladykillers, etc. early in the year, so this is not unprecedented for them.
