Well, it looks like Tom Cruise will officially help Universal legitimize their shared monster cinematic universe by signing on the hunt down The Mummy. Along with a big star comes a big new summer release date, and lots of talk about whether or not Tom Cruise will be as good as Brendan Fraser at being in the center of a mummy movie.
According to Variety (link below), Cruise is officially signed on for director Alex Kurtzman's The Mummy, which has been pushed back about six weeks from its original March 2017 release to June 9. Thankfully Kurtzman isn't writing the film as that duty has fallen to Prometheus scribe Jon Spaihts which may or may not be a better thing than letting Kurtzman write the script himself. Either way, this whole endeavor gives me a moment to once again propose a shared universe for Blacula, Blackenstein, and The Blummy. Join the boycott!
