Prometheus is perhaps the dumbest movie ever made. It's gorgeously shot, the visual effects are fantastic, and it has some of the best use of 3D technology I've ever seen, but the story, characters, and dialogue are amongst the worst ever seen or heard in a major blockbuster. To make matters worse, Ridley Scott's upcoming sequel/Alien-prequel keeps changing its title and now has another new one.
According to /Film (link below), the follow-up to Prometheus has changed its title from Alien: Paradise Lost to Alien: Covenant, likely because Alien: Dante's Inferno was a little too on the nose.
“I was going to be doing what will be called ‘Alien: Covenant,’ which starts shooting next February, and we were struggling then with the screenplay there and then there was a phone call, somebody saying, ‘Listen, we’ve got this thing which is completely written called ‘Martian,’ and I said, ‘Huh.’ And I sped read it in an hour and by mid-afternoon, I talked to Fox and said, ‘I need to talk to ‘Drew [Goddard]…’”
Maybe Ridley's just confused or maybe he realized how stupid Paradise Lost was as a subtitle. Whatever happened to numbering your sequels? When did that stop? Thanks to franchises like Underworld, Resident Evil, and most of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I never know in what the fuck order I'm supposed to watch anything.
