Hilarious TV Shows You've Never Heard Of

The IT Crowd

Where it originally aired: UK

To be fair, if you live in the UK, you've probably heard of this. But if you live in the United States or anywhere else, chances are you missed this great show. The IT Crowd is about a pair of eccentric guys working in the IT department of a very strange building, accompanied by their “normal” supervisor, an attractive redhead. If you like geek-humor, general absurdity, and those crazy British accents, you should pick up the DVDs as soon as possible. This show is basically The Big Bang Theory, except it's actually funny.

The Man Who Can't Get Married

Where it originally aired: Japan

For those viewers who are brave enough to step outside of their comfort zones and—gasp—read subtitles (unless you speak Japanese), The Man Who can't Get Married is one of the funniest shows ever produced in Japan. That is, for the western sense of humor—Japan has their own very, very strange brands of humor that a lot of folks across the sea just don't “get.” This show isn't one of them. It follows the tale of an odd, OCD-afflicted, introverted architect who claims to never want to get married. Of course, he seems to have several attractive women interested in him, and hijinks ensue.

Don't Trust the B*tch in Apartment 23

Where it originally aired: US

If, like this author, you figured that this show was going to be another garbge, not really that funny, family fun time feel good  puke-fest that's so common to sitcoms produced by ABC, you would have been wrong. While there are some of those “gooey” elements, the writing and characters are actually funny (most of the time). Essentially, the show tells the story of a naïve young lady who moves in with an insane, manipulative woman, played by Krysten Ritter (of Breaking Bad fame). As a bonus, James Van Der Beek (Dawson's Creek) plays a hilarious, exaggerated version of himself, forever typecast as Dawson. Don't let the cutesy, self-censored name put you off: this show is worth checking out.
